A very rich, full-flavored beer. Not at all bitter. I liked it.

Well, we found out what Apple had up their sleeves.

Apple event

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Apple is holding a media event today. That is, they invited members of the media to come and cover an announcement. So what is Steve Jobs going to announce? Well, that’s the big mystery, isn’t it? The consensus is that he’s going to announce a refresh of the iPod line with an emphasis on a new touchscreen interface a la the iPhone. I think he probably will. Plus something surprising. We’ll see when it happens.

Just finished The Elves of Cintra, the second book of the Genesis of Shannara series, and sequel to Armageddon’s Children last night. They blur the line a bit between science fiction and fantasy, but if I were running a bookstore, I’d stick them in the fantasy section. With a five-star rating.

Spanish Peaks Summer White

Spanish Peaks Brewing Co.’s Summer White Belgian Style White Ale is a very citrus-y tasting beer. From the same people who brings us Black Dog Ale, it is kind of sour, but very easy-drinking. I liked it.

Harp Lager

The other new beer I tried this weekend was Harp Lager. There’s a good description of it on this blog page. I had the impression that it was a very decent and respectable beer. Full-bodied and a good flavor, but not especially adventurous. I’d probably choose it as an “old standby.”

Schlafly Hefeweizen Ale

I really hate to criticize beer, but I was completely unimpressed with Schlafly’s wheat beer, which they call a Hefeweizen Ale. Well, which is it? I tried it at a local pub, and what I experienced was much more like a watered-down lager than either a hefeweizen or an ale. In good conscience, I just can’t give this one my stamp of approval.
