One of the nice things about giving beer as a Christmas present is that the recipient will usually share with you. I gave my dad a Michelob Specialty Ales & Lagers Sampler Collection, and he let me try one of the Premium Heritage Bavarian Style Wheat. Anheuser-Busch advertises it as an “all malt brew,” which I take to mean that it’s not cut by rice or any other inferior grains. The ingredients list bears this out, claiming barley malts and wheat malts.
It’s a nice homage to a Bavarian hefeweizen. Golden, cloudy, with a generous head. It has the typical hefeweizen aroma, and a somewhat sour taste. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Yesterday was New Year’s Day. Historically, it was the 200 years to the day that it became illegal to import slaves into the United States. It was also 145 years since the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect.
Yesterday was really, really cold. Too cold to go out and try to put a roof on my house. (Today is really cold too.)
Also, yesterday, the Illini got the butts handed to them by USC in the Rose Bowl. ![]()
