Here’s Downtown Gringos covering the Howlin Wolf classic song, “Killin Floor”:

And here’s the man himself doing it right:

Boont Amber Ale

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Boont Amber Ale pours a dark amber - nearly red - color with a thick creamy head. It had an aroma with strong floral and fruity smells. It was a thick, rich, malty beer with a very strong hop flavor. Too hoppy for me to enjoy totally, I’d recommend this beer as a refreshing beverage after a stretch of physical work. If you like big hoppy beers, you’d like this one.

12 Essential Rules to live like a Zen Monk

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Leo Babauta posted an article on his Zen Habits blog entitled 12 Essential Rules to Live More Like a Zen Monk. Actually, I think that these rules apply not just to Buddhist monks, but would make good advice to anyone, including and especially Christians.

Three Floyd’s Robert the Bruce Scottish-style Ale

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Three Floyds, out of Indiana, did well with this beer. Obviously trying to duplicate the “Wee Heavy” variety of a Scottish Ale, this big, sweet, extra-malty beer makes itself known. I actually started to drink it a bit too cold. At a low temperature, the finish does have a distinct hops bitterness. But after a few swallows, it’s either absorbed by the warming malt flavors or your taste buds become accustomed to it. Then the various big malt flavors come to the fore.

It’s a really nice beer. I don’t think my system would be able to handle such a strong concentration every day, but it makes a nice treat for special occasions.

Thanks to by buddy Nick for donating this bottle. Hope he appreciates the Belhaven St. Andrews Ale in return.

Are you a brainiac?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

You Are a Total Brainiac

You’re amazingly brilliant. Some would even say genius.
You’re curious, thoughtful, analytical, and confident.

You take on difficult subjects because you want to… not because you have to.
No field of knowledge is too complicated or intimidating for you.

You’ve got the brains to do anything you want.
It’s possible you end up doing everything you want.

Calls Mount for Olympic Ceremony Boycott

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

In light of the crackdown in Tibet, the idea has surfaced for political leaders to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. Note, this isn’t a general boycott - which would hurt the athletes - or anything that involves the athletes in any way.

St. Joseph

The Solemnity of Joseph, Husband of Mary, is usually celebrated on March 19th, but this year, it was moved to March 15th, because it was bumped by Wednesday of Holy Week. However, I wanted to give a nod to my favorite saint today anyway.
