Liturgical texts for the Papal visit to the U.S.
The liturgical texts for the Pope’s visit to the United States have been published. (PDF)
While Pope Benedict XVI isn’t the linguist his predecessor, Pope John Paul II, was, I was quite interested to see what languages the liturgies would be held in. Here’s what I noticed:
- The first evening prayer was in Latin and English.
- The Masses were predominantly in English with the first readings being done in Spanish. There was some sung Greek and Latin. (The Kyrie and the Gloria, to be specific.)
- The other prayer services were completely in English.
