Heller

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Heller was affirmed by the Supreme Court this morning.

Update: This means that the Supreme Court ruled that the D.C. gun ban law is unconstitutional. It appears to have been 5-4 along ideological lines. Justice Scalia wrote the opinion. Justice Breyer dissented, joined by Justices Stevens, Souter and Ginsburg.

H/T: Scotusblog

Another Update: Apparently, there are two written dissenting opinions, but only one majority opinion.

Update 9:25 a.m.: Here’s a link to Justice Scalia’s opinion upholding Heller. I’m sure it will take me a while to read it.

Yesterday, I finished reading The Summer Palace by Lawrence Watt-Evans. It’s the third of a trilogy (The Annals of the Chosen), not a stand-alone novel. But it was a fun read, and it brought the series to a close nicely.

If you like books in the fantasy genre, check this trilogy out.

Faith and reason are not incompatible

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Jennifer F., over at Conversion Diary, has a great post about “converting for intellectual reasons.” I encourage you to read it.

In it, she hits upon a point that cannot be made too often: Faith and Reason are not opposed to each other. While she doesn’t go into great detail about this point, it is one that I believe needs to be stressed, given that this truth is contrary to what seems to be one of the prevailing mythologies of our time.

This explains everything
