No birthday suit

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

The other evening, my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday (this coming Friday). I replied that I would like to have a new suit. So, she arranged to take me shopping this morning. We went to six different stores, and struck out at each. I am very hard to fit into a suit coat properly, as I have broad shoulders and a large chest, but am short in height.

JC Penny’s was the least disappointing. There were suits that were only slightly snug in the shoulders, but I simply wasn’t that impressed with the style. S&K’s and Kohl’s were of no use whatsoever. I was able to find some coats that fit at Bergner’s, but all the trousers they had to go with them could have fit two of me. Macy’s and Sears had nothing that even approached my size.

Having a tailor make me a suit is sounding more and more like the thing to do.

Religious-type stuff for the weekend

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

I went to confession today. It had been an awfully long time since my last one, and I felt a little uneasy about it. Not what to say, but whether I’d remember my part of the ritual. Turns out I remembered, although I must have hesitated a bit, because the priest tried to be helpful and prompted me along the way. Nice of him. At any rate, I’m glad I went. I’d been feeling rather uneasy about some of my habitual sins, and I’ve been working on trying to enter a new phase of my relationship with God. Sacramental Reconciliation seemed like a good idea. Oh, and I’ve also been missing it.

Lectored at Mass this evening too. Tomorrow morning, I have to go back to Church, because I am the RCIA catechist this weekend. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It’s a process whereby people seeking to join the Church learn more about - and grow in - the Faith. So, tomorrow, they’ll come to Mass, and stay for the readings and the homily (sermon), and then leave before the Liturgy of the Eucharist. I’ll go with them, and lead them in continuing their reflection on the Word of God which they had just heard.

Then, about the time Mass ends, we’ll adjourn for a coffee break, and then gather again for a more educational session on a Faith topic which was scheduled by the RCIA director.

This week’s topic is Divine Justice. I’m supposed to teach that?!?!

Holy Spirit, please put Your words in my mouth, because on this topic my own fail me. Amen.
